Bee Community Grant

Awarded: $5,000

Purpose: Funding for a program expansion project.

This grant was researched and written for a non-profit organization in Bryan, Texas, and was part of a semester-long project for an advanced technical writing course in the Spring 2024 semester. Bee Community is dedicated to providing meaningful work and social experiences for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Brazos County, Texas.

Marketing Materials

This section showcases my ability to create documents for marketing purposes. Each project makes use of various elements such as color, typography, alignment, contrast, and repetition to create engaging, visually appealing, informative documents that can be distributed to the public. 

Bee Community Brochure

This project was created as part of a semester-long partnership with a local nonprofit organization. Using Adobe Creative Suite, I created this brochure for the Bee Community as part of their roll-out campaign for a confidential paper shredding service.

Promotional Flyer

This document was created using Canva as part of a Spring 2024 assignment to improve an existing flyer for a carpet cleaning service. I have included the original flyer as well as my revised version for comparison.

The original features a confusing headline, disorganized layout, distracting visuals, unclear information, and a variety of text sizes, fonts, and colors that make it difficult to read.

My revision includes a much more cohesive and appealing color scheme, an eye-catching tagline, well organized information, a relevant and informative visual, and clear contact information.

Restaurant Flyer Project

This flyer was created using Canva during the Spring 2023 semester as part of a fictitious marketing project for a digital writing course. The purpose of the project was to create a visually appealing and informative flyer for public distribution announcing the grand opening of a local restaurant. Students were provided with a list of required informational elements as well as document design parameters for the creation of the flyer.

Informational and Instructional Material

This section features a variety of informational and instructional design projects that I have created as part of my partnership with the Bee Community nonprofit organization as well as for several courses from 2023 and 2024. These examples showcase my abilities to combine informative material with document design techniques to produce engaging, visually appealing, informative documents that are appropriate for a wide range of audience knowledge bases.

Bee Community Art Pricing Instructions

These instructions were developed during my partnership with the Bee Community. My contact in the company informed me that they needed a set of instructions for their artisans to use when pricing their art. To accomplish this, I created a booklet featuring two different common calculation formulas that could easily be adapted to any medium, size, and style of art. This document showcases my organizational abilities as well as my creative design capabilities in developing informational material that is both engaging and easy to follow. 

Informational Postcard Project

This postcard was part of a design project for my Spring 2024 advanced technical writing course. I chose to create a postcard on conducting informational interviews with subject matter experts. The purpose of the postcard was for potential distribution in a writing center and was intended for an audience ranging from novice to advanced writers. 

Informational Poster Project

This document was the final project in my Spring 2024 complementary health therapies course. The informational poster combines principles of document design with academic research to create a highly informative, visually appealing, easy-to-read research project. The format of the poster was designed for use as a display at an academic health fair.

Literary and Creative Writing

This section highlights my skills in the literary and creative writing fields using examples from previous courses that have been published or have been nominated for publication in various compilations of IU student works. 

Robert Hayden Explication

This literary criticism paper was published in the April 2024 IU Pressbook of Student Writing and provides an in-depth exploration of the underlying racial and societal implications of several poems by Robert Hayden using ecological and animal criticism theories as the basis for argument. An excerpt of the paper can be viewed here.

The Interpretive Duality of the Pardoner

This literary criticism paper was also published in the April 2024 IU Pressbook of Student Writing. I used two opposing theories to highlight and explicate two oppositional interpretations that can be made of the Pardoner in The Canterbury Tales. This paper can be viewed here.
